Club AGM
held last night (23/06/2010). It was with some surprise that when we
arrived at the club last night the Midland Red Venue was boarded up.
Apparently the premises have been sold to a brewery and there has been a delay
in a mortgage transfer resulting in the building being boarded up by bailiffs.
Therefore we had to convene the annual general meeting at the Amber
Tavern. The highlights of the AGM were that subscriptions have increased
for the season 2010-11. The new costs voted for by a majority of those in
attendance is £60 for full time employed members and £30 for disabled,
retired, unemployed or juniors. There was some consternation that some
members seem reluctant or slow to pay club fees. The responsibility for acquiring
club fees now lies with team captains. John Pakenham was voted club
President after Mike Wildboar stepped down and John's role as club secretary has
been filled by John Fahy. Brian Whitehouse remains as treasurer. The
major talking point of 'any other business' was of course the closure of the
Midland Red club. We do not know if this is permanent of temporary - it
was agreed that we will begin the search for new premises in light of current
circumstances - albeit the club may reopen. The major issue we face is
that our equipment is currently locked inside the Midland Red building with no
way of gaining entry. For more information please contact the new club
secretary - John Fahy whose details are on the 'contact us' page. Other
than that, it was probably our best year as a club for a long time!

Wow - what a season: the first team secured their place in
Division 1 after promotion last year and Andy Southall won the Division 1 League
Individual.
Division 2 had an incredible season: Not only did they win
the Homer Trophy, but they secured promotion into Division 1 after a stunning
end of season run, beating teams that outgraded them in the final three matches,
Wolverhampton, Stourbridge and Olton A. This resulted in a promotion
play-off match against Solihul whom they had lost to earlier in the season by
5-1. However, after a tense match Division 2 won promotion against Solihul
on board count! The team also retained the prestigious Gothard Cup!
Division 5 won their league after a tense championship play-off,
again this was secured on board count. The team also smashed teams around
them to win the Barrington Trophy.
Division 6 were just a point away from securing a play-off
place. So well done to them. Pauline Woodward also won the league
individual title!

Please contact J Fahy in the event of any query.
Simon Smith
Smashes International Master - see the games pages
Simon with the trophy for becoming BDCL Division 2 champion
2009.
Congratulations to Alan
Agnew; Club Champion 2009.
Well done to runner-up John Fahy who beat Mike
Wildboar (Div 1) in the Semi-Final.
Sadly Warley
Quinborne came a close second in the 4th Coldwar Cup - the annual pre-season
match has now been won 3 times by Sutton Coldfield. This year Warley had
no first-team players in its line up. Notable draws were achieved by Simon
Smith, Micky Singh and Phil Bull who played on boards 1-3 and were outgraded by
their opponents. We'll beat them next year...
Congratulations to team 2a who not only achieved promotion to
Division 1, but they also won the Terrill Trophy. A fine achievement.
